It's important we get this done, for everyone who was there.  They deserve it.  Lest We Forget.  Thanks to all who can help!

I had the pleasure of making another (short)cruise on MIDWAY in January when she was moved from her temporary NAS North Island pier across San Diego Bay to her final berth at Navy Pier at the foot of Broadway. The ship really looks good. They did a great job of cleaning and painting her before bringing her to SD. With all the effort being put forth, she'll be the best carrier museum in the country. The location on the bay is superb and the VF-21/VF-161 Phantom will be the premier aircraft display on deck. The museum executive director is already talking about making it the plane to put in the landing area w/hook down simulatiing a trap. You have to come see it when it's complete. Looking forward to hearing from all you old shipmates out there and hope you'll join with us in getting this project completed. Check Six and Kilo Sierra! Jack Ensch (aka - Fingers)

I am a supporter of Naval Aviation from Pretoria South Africa. This is a great cause and I hope you get all the support this great project deserves. The pictures of VF-21's ready room are incredible, but who are all those Aviators?

I was a mech in VAQ-136 working on Prowlers, but I fully support this effort to preserve the second Phantom in Midway markings. As the site owner for www.MidwaySailor.com, I have added this site to my Midway Links page in an effort to give it more visibility. Good luck and keep up the good work!

This is a great web page. but where are the pictures of all the enlisted men that kept those aircraft in the sky?? David R Deas, USN, AQF2, VF-92, USS America/USS Constellation, 1970-1972.

Answer to the comment above:  Thanks for the comment David.  If we had any photos of Phantom Phixers in action, they would be there.  The importance of Phantom Phixers to the success of the F-4 in Vietnam is well-known and well-appreciated by ALL Phantom Phlyers.  If you have photos, please send. It was nice to chat with Jack Ensch last night and hear about the Midway and the phantom project. I had read about the Midway being moved to San Diego and Vickie and I are thinking about a visit to San Diego and the boat. Maybe this fall or next year. Hi to all, Wizzer

I remember helping design the "new" paint scheme for the RockRivers during work-ups prior to the long 1972-73 cruise. I recall Taco Bell, Bart Bartholomay, Steve Brainerd and Oran Brown were also part of this endeavor. We also asked the crew for inputs. A white "Charger" was considered, but the Lightning Bolt was a whole lot easier. The maintenance department did a fantastic job -- the new look matched a new leadership that truly had a fighter squadron mind-set.

Intelligence Officer, May 71- May 74. (Made three cruises - the last the homeporting to Japan). Nickname: "Flipper" -- given to me by RIO Nick Nichols because I was prior-enlisted and wore Submarine Service "Dolphins" (kind of unique in a FITRON). What a defining tour of duty for an Ensign/JG. The friendships and camaraderie were extraordinary and long-lasting.

This is a great surprise to me. Did not know where anyone was anymore until Flipper aka Tom Terlizzi contacted me a month ago. I have not forgotten the coming of age in being a war veteran. No grudges only great memories of some of the finest people I ever had the pleasure of working with. Looking forward to more contacts..."jimmie frank" or "poncho" whichever call sign you remember

This was my first visit to your site. Great Job! Found out about your site from CAPT Jack Ensch this week end. He visited Prairie Aviation Museum in Bloomington IL on 5/22/04 to see his old plane VF-161 Phantom II (102). We are in the restoration process to honor the USS Midway and this fine aircraft. One of his college class mates in on my restoration crew. Fly High and best wishes

Great web site, I was station at VF-21 from 1979 to 1981, probably the best ao shop in the Navy at that time, from 1985 to 1980 I was with VF and VFA-151 onboard the U.S. S. Midway, what a tour !!! it brings back many thoughts of good times and shipmates from long ago. Keep up the good work and fair winds and following seas. Would like to hear from any shipmate.
